The Stables Farm Stay Experience

We had the absolute pleasure of being able to stay in ‘The Stables’ in Palmwoods, hosted by Tiny Away, and couldn’t resist visiting some of the local attractions on our little weekend getaway. Starting with a quick trip to the Eumundi markets.

After some roaming entertainment and picking my new favourite ring (@frankieleajewellery), we decided to check out the highly recommended Terella Brewery. Not before Hamish refused to leave the markets without his obligatory ice cream.

Terella did not disappoint. The vibe was wholesome; a fun, easy-going spot for some live entertainment, a beer with your mates, and ample space for the kids to ride their bikes around.

There was no shortage of memories here, with the resident animals in the Farm Yard ready and waiting for lots of pats. Hamish has been really interested in animals lately, so his excitement levels when he got to cuddle a bunny were through the roof. Then, grabbed a quick bite from the food trucks before picking some take-home beers for the fire and made our way to our home for the weekend.

Our check-in process was quick and simple, which meant lots of extra time for Hamish to make friends with the Rescue horses that lived right next to our tiny home.

Barry and Iona were incredible hosts, and were more than willing to show us around the property and introduce us to all the animals. After we settled in, Barry took us for a walk through the trees and over a tree log to see the dam. ‘Going on a bearrrr hunt’ Hamish would sing.

We met lots of cows on our adventure, who came over to say hello and wander around with us. Now that we knew our way around, Joel & Hamish went off to collect some firewood. As simple as it could be to purchase some, there’s something wholesome about these extra little moments. Hamish wanted to collect giant sticks, that he could barely drag let alone carry; but he soon figured it out. In the distance I could see him stomping along with his bucket of sticks.

He’s always been a little country kid at heart, despite growing up in the suburbs.

The rescue horses followed along the fence line as far as they could, which he thought was the best thing, and were always as near as they could be to say hello.

Along came Barry soon after, with several loaves of bread for the sheep. Hamish fed the sheep through the fence, cackling as they snatched each piece from his hands.

We ordered the yummiest pizza from the local shop ‘Pizza Pizza’, which was only a few minutes drive away, and settled in on the wooden chairs around the fire (and made sure Hamish didn’t give any away to the sheep).

After a big day of LOTS of animals and adventure, Hamish fell asleep in daddy’s lap in front of the fire as we watched the stars. The rest of our weekend was filled with lots of relaxation (and lots of talking to the sheep and horses), as well as a visit to the coastline to see the ocean.

The Sunshine Coast is magical in the sense that half an hour separates the hinterland from the water; allowing you to have a getaway with the best of both worlds. We watched the waves and jumped in the puddles by the rock pools.

All of this adventure meant a long nap for Hamish, and a quiet book for dad, giving me the perfect opportunity to visit the Shed in Palmwoods; a café and antique store by the train lines. You could spend hours walking through the store, finding all the treasures with every little turn.

On our final night, we decided to visit Rick’s garage, where I had what I would consider the best homemade apple crumble I’ve ever had (and if you know me, I LOVE apple crumble). We got to see the last of the motorbikes heading off for the day, and sat under the heaters; popping ourselves into some food comas.

We wanted to explore more on our last day, but the rainy weather had other ideas. We decided on a final hurrah out to Maroochydore for some coffee and a big breakfast, before heading back down the highway from what feels like a holiday we spent so far away, but was on our back step the whole time.
