Getaway at Tiny Tallowood

A stay at Tiny Tallowood is the ideal, relaxing weekend. The hosts, Mel and Jack, are friendly and attentive, and the tiny house is positioned with a view towards the mountains perfect for watching the sunset from beside the campfire.

During my stay, I met a couple of their horses, their pig, and went for walks around the property and down to the creek, which looked like a great place to cool down in warmer weather.

Located just half an hour from Coffs Harbour means it is a great location to unwind with a peaceful farm stay, but close enough for a drive into town to spend a morning. I walked along the jetty, got a coffee from Hub Café and sat in the sun by Jetty Beach, before walking out to Muttonbird Island Reserve to look for whales and other wildlife. I visited the Surf Club Restaurant for brunch with views of the beach, before driving up to Sealy Lookout for incredible views back towards Coffs from Forest Sky Pier. From here the drive back to Glenreagh winds through gorgeous country and farmland full of blueberry crops.

Another highlight near Glenreagh that I checked out during my stay was Scouts Falls. Hidden away down a dirt road, with very few signs that you’re headed somewhere special, is a short hike to a crystal clear swimming hole under the falls. A gorgeous place for a picnic in the sun, it was well worth the effort and dirt road driving to reach it. Other spots I visited on my way to and from my tiny house stay were Urunga, a sleepy coastal town with an impressive boardwalk, Bellingen, where I had the tastiest cinnamon scroll I’ve ever had (from HYDE), and drove Waterfall Way to visit the waterfalls around Dorrigo.

The Coffs Coast region and areas inland from there offer beautiful coastal scenery and national parks to explore that will have be visiting there again in the future.
